Hill of Content Bookshop
Type: Retail Fitout
Project status: Recently completed
Location: Melbourne CBD, Wurundjeri

Picture

The Hill of Content Bookshop has been part of Melbourne life for over 100 years. It has recently relocated 120m up the road to a new location in a historic building at the Parliament end of Bourke Street.

The new fitout design is a tasteful re-creation of the unique atmosphere and refined aesthetic found in the iconic store, while embracing a new era. Over 90% of the existing shelving units were carefully disassembled and re-used during the relocation, which became a key concept of the design, to retain the heart and feel of the old shop.

The new space provides an opportunity to improve the accessibility of the store, and all areas are now fully accessible to all customers and staff. Adaptability is also a key factor for the layout and circulation in the new design, which allows the shop to transform into an event space for book launches, interviews and presentations.

The Hill of Content opened in the new location in mid-July.
