Bakehouse Studios
Type: Music Studio Accessibility Upgrade
Project status: Completed in 2024
Location: Richmond, Wurundjeri
Picture

In 2022, Bakehouse Studios was given a $500k grant by the state government to improve disability access to their heritage building and iconic performance and recording spaces. This involved retrofitting the 100+ year old building to accommodate a new passenger lift, accessible bathroom, and a series of ramps.

We built an independently supported lift shaft within the existing space with minimal impact to the lush and peaceful central courtyard. The new access ramps were designed to efficiently travel up to the new stage and the surrounding areas.

All works were completed in time for a concert to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disability, and have since allowed Bakehouse Studios to become an equitable hub for artists with disabilities.
